The Prophecy of Malachy
Frate malachia
Brother Malachy

Malachy, described by his friend Bernard of Clairvaux as a noble birth, was an Irish nun, born in Armagh, in Northern Ireland in 1094. In 1123 he was chosen to fill the role of abbot of Bangor. A year later he was consecrated Bishop of Connor, and in 1132, despite his opposition, was appointed Archbishop of Armagh. To him we owe the restoration of Christianity in Ireland, reform and the reorganization of the Irish church and its subsequent submission to Rome. He died at Clairvaux in 1148.
The Prophecy of Malachy
In 1139, Malachy, during a visit to Rome, has a vision, a list of 111 phrases appears before him , each of which is sometimes so very precise and sometimes a little under, the name of a Pope.
That list would, from then on, the names of all the popes who were succeeded as head of the Roman Church until the end of time, or at least the end of the church of Rome. In the prophecy, Malachy identifies the popes not with the name and surname, but with 111 sayings in Latin, describing a particular highlight of the Pope's life which includes the motto: a place of birth, particularly of the emblem, special event related to a specific pontificate etc ... .
Having had the vision, the Malachy would put in writing and delivered to Innocent II, who in turn
have stored such a document among many of the Vatican Archives. The prophecy of Malachy was published for the first time since Monaco Benedictine Arnold Wion in 1595 in his book "The tree of life", better known as the Lignum Vitae.
Below the 111 ° motto is a phrase whose true meaning has not yet been clarified and many believe that this phrase refers to the 112th pope, though the jokes are 111. This is the Latin phrase:

"In persecutione extrema Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oves in multis tribulationibus; quibus transactis, civitas septicollis diruetur, et Judex tremendus iudicabit populum suum. Finis."

Translation: "During the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church will sit Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations; past these, the city of seven hills will collapse and the dreadful Judge will judge his people. Amen."
The video of the prophecy
According to many people, the last sentence about Peter Romano, seems to be a sentence added in 1820, in which case the prophecy of Malachy would cover only 111 Popes, and then the last, "De gloria olivae" indicates how Benedict XVI 's Last Pope. In any case it is not clear whether "De gloria olivae" and "Petrus Romanus"  should be considered consecutive popes, since the prophecy does not report anything about it.
Very interesting that a recent theory argues that the last sentence concerning Petrus Romanus is not referring to the Pope, but to the Cardinal Camerlengo, who on the death of the pope sits on the throne of Peter until the next election; this hypothesis, is supported by the fact that the last sentence, unlike the others, is not numbered. The current Camerlengo is Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone Peter, born in Romano Canavese in 1934.
Prophecy of the recent Popes
107 - Pope John XXIII stated in the prophecy of Malachy as Pastor et nauta which translated means shepherd and sailor. The pope is a pastor of souls, and in particular, Roncalli was Patriarch of Venice, a Maritime Republic, hence sailor.
108 - Pope Paul VI was described by Malachy Flos florum which translated means flower of flowers", the flower of flowers in the tradition has always been lily and in the  family crest Montini appear just three lilies.
109 - Pope John Paul I  is indicated as De medietate Lunae , ie the average cycle of the moon which is about a month. Pope John Paul I lived just 33 days before being crushed by a death still shrouded in mystery.
110 - Pope John Paul II shown instead with the motto De labore Solis, in Latin "labor" literally means hard work, and reported to the sun also takes on the meaning of "Eclipse", to which the meaning of the motto becomes "the eclipse of the sun."  On the day of birth of Karol Wojtyla (May 18, 1920) and on the day of his funeral (April 8, 2005) match, unbelievably, with two eclipses of the sun.
As for the motto 111, which deals with the current Pope Benedict XVI, must wait until the end of the papacy to be able to give a correct interpretation, it could be, like some other sayings of the prophecy of Malachia, which can be fully understood only after his death.
To date, the explanation that we propose is the following:
111 - Pope Benedict XVI, indicated by Malachy with motto De gloria olivae which translated literally means "glory of olives" .The reference to Benedict can be explained by the fact that members of the Benedictine order is also called the Olivetans, on whose crest appears just the olive branch and, more importantly, Pope Ratzinger was born April 16, 1927, Holy Saturday, the most significant point of the Easter period which is precisely characterized by the symbol of the olive.
