Avocado: Properties and Benefits

The name avocado comes from the word " ahuacati " belonging to the alphabet of the Aztec people who considered the fruit of the avocado possess aphrodisiac properties and for this reason was called by them the fruit of love.
The avocado plant belongs to the Lauraceae family and its origins date back more than 5.000 years ago; today the avocado is cultivated in all tropical countries, South Africa, United States and recently Italy has begun to cultivate this precious fruit with multiple properties.
The avocado tree can reach a height of about 20 meters, is an evergreen with a fruit that vaguely recalls the shape of the pear (it is also called alligator pear); the pulp of the fruit has a taste "soft", the color is greenish yellow and is very fragrant. Inside the fruit has a single large seed.
Avocado: Properties and benefits
The avocado is a fruit rich in protein and fat, the latter are present in an amount almost equal to that of the olives. Very rich in vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, D, E, K, PP.
The avocado is a real bundle of energy, per 100 grams of edible flesh are 7% sugar, 19% fat, and almost 2% of protein.

Very abundant also the presence of minerals, especially potassium, in amounts comparable to that contained in three bananas; present, although in smaller quantities, phosphorus, sulfur, magnesium and calcium.
In addition to water, which of course is the main component (76%), we also have the presence of soluble and insoluble fiber, carbohydrates, and starch.

Benefits and Curative Properties of Avocado

The main properties of the avocado and its consequent benefits are due primarily to the presence of fatty acid linoleic and Omega 3 or the so-called "acid beneficial" that can stimulate the production of good cholesterol (HDL) and instead inhibit the deposit of the bad cholesterol (LDL). These properties of avocado are thus able to reduce the presence of cholesterol in the blood and the various diseases related to the blood circulation to the heart health.

Another positive aspect resulting from the assumption of the avocado are the benefits related to the presence of antioxidants that are able to help the cells counteract free radical activity thus slow down the aging process. In particular, vitamin A and vitamin E are two powerful antioxidant with properties capable of helping the skin to retain its elasticity and slow down the aging process.

The avocado is a food also useful in combating depression and Alzheimer's disease and also has good anti-inflammatory properties that can bring benefits to different organs of the human body.
Avocado Curiosity
The intake of avocado is highly recommended to pregnant women because it contains a good percentage of folic acid that helps in the prevention of malformations of the nervous system and brain.

According to recent research conducted at the University of Ohio has emerged that substances contained in the avocado are able to prevent the formation of certain cancers, particularly the one what concerns the mouth.

To verify its maturity before purchase is necessary that the avocado appears soft with a slight pressure of the fingers; in case it was still unripe can be enclosed in a paper bag and kept at room temperature for a few days (on average 4 or 5). If the avocado is already mature you can instead store in the refrigerator for up to one week.

The avocado is a food not properly "light", this because of its high fat content and is therefore not recommended to abuse it. It can be used as a substitute for oil, for example, you can add to a salad plate and then not add oil.

Avocado is also an excellent astringent with aromatic and digestive properties and it is then able to bring benefits in the case of dysentery.
Avocado Wrap for Hair
To bring benefits to the hair, especially in the case of very dry hair, you just get the equivalent of the pulp of half an avocado and mash it well until you get a sort of cream that will be applied to wet hair for about half an hour, after which can proceed with the rinse. In case you want to intensify the effect of such a procedure, you can add a couple of teaspoons of olive oil and a teaspoons of honey.
